Two Jets Stalwarts Join the 150 Club

19 APR 2018 | BY WESTELL

The club is proud to announce that Ben McConnell (left in the pic) and Michael Khabbaz are set to join the elite 150 club this Saturday vs PHOS Camden. They are the 52nd and 53rd senior players in Jet history to reach this significant milestone.

Michael joined first, playing his first senior game alongside identical twin brother James in 2007. Mike quickly developed into a tough as nails, hard tackling, reliable, back pocket with a highlight being the 2012 A grade premiership. Injury has slowed him down the last couple of years and it was difficult to play only half a season in 2015 and 2017 watching his brothers, but always helping out. He is getting back to peak fitness now and we hope there are many more games left in the M. Khabbaz tank.

Benny Mac started seniors in 2008, and has played in a variety of positions from on ball to wing, half forward and running out of defence. Has explosive pace and a thumping left foot kick (occasionally a little wayward!). Ben was also a member of the famous 2012 A grade flag and is a popular and hard-working player at the Jets. Important to note that Ben is quietly sneaking up the all-time goals list for the Jets with 176 goals so far….places him currently as 24th highest ever Jets goal scorer.

Both Michael and Ben have another thing in common. Amazing family support. We love the fact that Les Khabbaz is at every game watching his boys Mike, James and Andy. As are Ross and Deb McConnell, and you could not get 2 more passionate and proud dads than Les and Ross. Thank you to both families for you significant contributions to our club over many years now. Enjoy the lad’s milestone games, and congratulations to everyone who has helped them along the way.

Both will be listed on the ‘virtual’ honour board for our longest serving players at season’s end.
