The season was officially wrapped up on Thursday night as club members met for the 2019 AGM.
- Junior Sub-committee formed to manage our ever-growing junior program
- Some new (old) faces join the Management Committee.
- Club well prepared for the added challenges of Division 1 and Senior women’s footy in our 50th anniversary year.
25 club members met at our Hospitality Partner, The TA, for the 2019 AGM held upstairs in the “Committee Room”.
Club President, David Heaslip, reported on a very successful season, reflecting on the significant achievements across the whole club.
Our disappointment at the recent funding decision* by Mitcham Council as reported in The Advertiser, after four years of negotiations, was the only item of negative consequence, but this was tempered by the notion that there is now a firm financial commitment from our landlords to proceed with some form of development.
*($25K committed to scope the project as opposed to the $750k sought).
David also thanked the outgoing committee and various key people for their efforts in 2019.
Head of Junior Football, Jo Wright, re-capped the season from the Junior perspective and outlined plans for 2020 which were presented to the AGM, the most significant of which was the establishment of a Junior Management Sub-committee (JSM). For a number of years the demands of the coordinator role have been way beyond a reasonable workload, despite the assistance of team managers and officials, and it is hoped this development will make the position more sustainable into the longer term.
A number of other on-field and off-field roles have been identified (see below) and interested volunteers from the club community are invited to contact Jo to fill them. Direct communication seeking support will be emailed to the parent cohort in this regard.
Club Treasurer, Mark Thiele, was able to report that despite added costs, particularly around co-contribution to successful smaller grant bids for facilities and equipment, the club continues to maintain a good fiscal position. There is however a need to continue to expand the income stream, via ongoing innovations to fundraising and sponsorship, to support our overall aims as a club.
Other reports were tabled on the night and will be attached to the minutes. The general consensus from all in attendance was that The Club is in good shape as we enter our 50th Anniversary year.
